Our Vision

The GW Jackson Multicultural Society Legacy Park is envisioned as a catalyst; a vibrant force in creating community collaborations and capturing the rich history and legacy of the African American experience, a vital part of the experience of all Americans. It will be a true sense of place for the Society's homage to its namesake, George Washington Jackson, the first African American school principal in Corsicana, Texas.

Set on the original homesite of Mr. Jackson, an open park centered by a bronze sculpture of Jackson in a familiar place, seated with an outstretched hand guiding students and families,  will be a setting both to honor the history of the place as a well as invite new reasons to make history.

With the help of donations and fundraising, we are hopeful that Legacy Park can be

open to the public in 2021.

Sculpture of GW Jackson

"I have not grown rich in this world's goods while I have served my people, but I enjoyed a great satisfaction in the thought that I leave the principalship of the school in the confidence of my old students, parents and citizens of Corsicana."
